Help people find your prints

Your goal: describe the product in language a relevant buyer might use.

Start with the product itself

Write down the subject, style, colour, format and intended setting. For a blue coastal illustration, useful ideas might include coastal art print, seaside wall art, blue beach decor or minimalist seascape. Use a phrase only when it accurately describes the listing.

Keep the title readable

Lead with what the item is and add the characteristics that help a buyer distinguish it. Avoid repeating the same words or packing unrelated gift occasions into the title. You do not need to fill every character to write a useful title.

Read Etsy's current title guidance for its recommendations.

Use relevant tags, categories and attributes

Etsy provides 13 tag slots, with up to 20 characters per tag. Use varied, specific phrases rather than repeating the title word for word in every slot. A tag must describe your product, not simply a popular search.

Choose the most appropriate category and complete relevant attributes accurately. These details also help Etsy understand the item. See Etsy's Keywords 101 and search guide.

Describe the image clearly

Where image alternative text is available, describe what is visible for someone who cannot see it. For example: “Blue coastal illustration in a slim oak frame above a white sideboard.” Do not turn the description into a list of search phrases.

Give changes time to teach you something

Keep a note of what you changed and when. Review whether people are seeing the listing, clicking it and choosing to buy. If the product image is unclear or the delivery cost surprises the buyer, changing tags alone will not solve the problem.

Treat generated copy as a draft. Check place names, materials, dimensions and every product claim before using it. No title, tag set or software tool can guarantee sales or a search position.

Your next step

  • My title is clear and identifies the product.
  • My tags use relevant, varied phrases.
  • My category and attributes match the item.
  • I have removed claims and keywords that do not fit the product.
